Looks like the greenies are out to screw with us again. It wasn't that long ago that they legislated Freon out of existence because it was said to contribute to the deterioration of the ozone layer. It was replaced with R134a, which is benign to the ozone layer. Great, right? Nope. According to the New York Times, it may be on the way out because "its potential for high contributions to the global greenhouse effect." Can't these morons make up their minds? Now there is a bunch of bickering over what will be replacing R134a. One option (believe it or not) is Carbon Dioxide—you know, that thing that causes global warming. This is favored in Europe, but will mean re-engineering every A/C system currently in use. The US favors R152a, which is a direct replacement for R134a, but is highly flammable.

1. Nice. We go from contributing to greenhouse effect to highly flammable.

Rationale scietists are now starting to prove that the whole global warming and greenhouse effect isn't as related to our effect on the environment as the environementalists like to say. They've found evidence that the Earth has natural shifts in global warming and greenhouse gases, and there's been times like this over the planet's existence.

Have we affected the planet. Absolutely. Are these two problems as critical as the whacko greenies make it out to be. No.

What we need is a rocket to put that nitwit Al Gore and the rest of the irrational, leftist whack environmentalists on and fire it into the sun.

2. It's all about the mighty dollar in the end. Who can profit from this change and how fast can it be implemented into law.
I remember when R134a was first used, it was cheap as hell and was actually a few degrees colder if retrofit properly. A couple years later it nearly tripled in cost - reason? The government was not making its cut on the R12 any longer so hey, let's transfer the tax (if that's what you want to call it) over to the new stuff.

3. Danny hit it right on the head. It's all about making a buck. If they can make a buck off of a pretended calamity and legislate it, that means more money in their coffers and more money means more power.

5. Great, lets replace the R134a with R 152a that is highly flammable, run it through the condensor in the very front of the vehicle at ultra high pressure so that if we get into an accident sparks will illuminate the accident scene and keep us nice and warm until help arrives.

6. Hello out there I need help I have a 67 chevy impala with a 327 that neeeds to be overhauld but I also have a big block 454 thats already been bored and ported I am lost on what to do should I keep the 327 or go with the 454.
