It’s amazing how angry body work on a vehicle can make you. It’s also amazing how body work on a vehicle can be almost therapeutic and soothing. Take for instance this wretched ’68 Wagon I have been working on. The very last area of the vehicle that had not been sanded down and brought to bare metal was the tailgate. As it turns out, this was one of the worst sections on car that was already in horrible shape. A few weeks back I had started sanding and sanding and sanding the tail gate. To my amazing horror the ancient mud on this tailgate was a ¼ of an inch deep. Truly, I was trapped in one of the lowest levels of Dante’s hell. I was so angry with the wagon I stopped in mid sanding and walked away. Just this weekend my anger went away and the bug to get it finished bit again. I worked on this wrinkled sheet metal till about 9:30 pm Saturday night when my friend Harry practically had to turn the lights off in the shop in order to get me to leave.
I’ll post more pictures of the actual metal work. This was just a few hours of sanding during the daylight hours. Have you ever seen sheet metal in this bad a shape? I would like to find the shop that layered on all this mud over the dents and smack em with a body hammer. But remember I’m not angry anymore. Lets see how long that will last.
