It had been a couple of years since the Super Chevy Show series rolled through Louisiana, but it was well worth it. The turnout was as good as could be expected with State Capitol Raceway filled to capacity (and beyond). We shots tons of photos while we were in town and nailed a bunch of car features. The Super Chevy True Street Challenge set a record for attendance with over two dozen cars entered. The only bad thing was the lines getting into the track were so long (a mile and a half in each direction) we couldn’t get the True Street cars off the property for the 30-mile road tour!
I do have one question, though: What’s with all the weird engine swaps down there? Not that I’m complaining, but there were some very novel uses of small-block Chevy power on hand—an Opel GT, a ’78 MGB, a Fox-chassis Mustang, a 280Z, a Thames panel truck and a Porsche 911. The latter had a Donovan block with Smokey Yunick heads in back and a nitrous bottle up front. Now that’s bizarre. There were also more full-size Chevys than we’ve seen in years, including four ‘58s, three of which had Tri-Power 348s. Read all about it in the July issue of Super Chevy. Stay tuned to the web for more photo updates and video highlights, too.
