Venting My Frustration

Carbon Fiber

I get it, believe me, I do. There was a time when carbon fiber was the newest, coolest thing to come out of the aftermarket. It’s strong, light, clean, and at one time, was very expensive. But times have changed. Not to say that carbon fiber is no longer a great material and doesn’t serves many purposes, but I think I have had just about enough of mismatched import hoods for the sole purpose of saying to the world, “Check out this expensive hood that does practically nothing for me.”

I mean, seriously. We aren’t talking about an all steel ’72 Chevelle here where it takes 4 guys to lift the hood on and off. I once took the hood off a Civic, balanced it on my finger, and pulled a Barnum and Bailey on that sh*t. Contrary to popular belief, it is in fact possible to paint carbon fiber and have it match the rest of the car. But I guess people can no longer visibly see that you are a moron.

What ever happened to the time when undercover was cool? What ever happened to showing up with a stock-appearing IROC and running to 10.70’s? Ever seen a 1969 Camaro ZL1? It looks like any old six cylinder Camaro that rolled off the production line. Ugly wheels, no badges, no stripes, crappy paint…etc. You spent $400 bucks on a hood. Throw some paint on it!!
