Just a few short weeks ago, when it was still 7 degrees in the North East, tech editor Dan Ryder blogged about his anxiety and need to see some tire smoke. Well, here we are, at the end of March, and the first month and a half of racing has been a hit. NHRA has seen a shake-up in heavy hitters, as well as NASCAR, and the Nationwide Series.
Warren Johnson proves that he is still the Professor of Horsepower and put himself and son Kurt atop the Pro Stock qualifying sheet in Gainsville. Tony Schumacher continues his dominating ways, and I personally can not wait for Ashley Force to get her first win. There was a time when I did not think she should be in a Top Fuel Funny Car but has been a quick learner and obviously has the horsepower to clean up shop. I for one am not the happiest camper about the Car Of Today, though I understand NASCAR’s point of view. People want to see side by side racing and this is the way to accomplish that. Do we want NASCAR to turn into 19 cars driving in a single file like Formula 1? I don’t think so. Kyle Busch is a little too “strange” for my liking, but there is no doubting his abilities. He is dominating all three series and put fans in the stands. You never see him driving at 80% or cruising around the track. How can you not respect a guy like that? All in all, the year has started off phenomenally for all…except maybe GoodYear. NHRA is seeing phenomenal racing especially out of the GXP’s, NASCAR is full of great story lines, and I can actually bear to watch a few laps of Formula 1. I hope the rest of the year keeps up with the high levels of competition.
