I recently picked up one of the first G8 GT’s to come off the production line and have enjoyed every second since. I never actually got up close to one before the purchase, but knew I had to have one. No test drive, no peek at the interior, just a few shots on the Pontiac website, and the next thing I knew, I put a deposit down over the phone. She’s black on black with some bells and whistles to keep the females entertained. Obviously, this car is going to sit in the garage when the new Camaro comes out, but for the mean time, its been great scaring co-workers on the way to lunch every day
There is no doubting the great power of the L76 with 361 horse, and 385 torque, but I was a little weary knowing that she will be tipping the scales at 4200 lbs with me behind the wheel. But, I didn’t buy this car to smoke everyone on the street. I bought it to drive, and drive a lot.
Every morning, Muscle Mustang editor Evan Smith and I spend some time discussing all forms of racing, especially our forte, NHRA Stock Eliminator. It’s amazing how you never run out of automobile related discussion topics. But anyway, we starting looking up the specs for the G8 on the NHRA website and saw that it should be very comparable to the Mustang GT. It’s heavier, but makes more power and much more torque. So, boys being boys, we decided to lay down a little wager. In the next few weeks, we’re taking my G8 and Evan’s wifes Mustang GT to good old Englishown Raceway to have it out. Best out of three, loser buys lunch for the week. Obviously, its going to awesome to see Mustang vs. Camaro vs. Challenger, but until that time, this is the match-up to be had.
Personally, I don’t see a problem stomping on his Mustang, but that Evan Smith is a slippery one, and he always seems to find ways to outwit the competition. Let’s see what he’s got when I come rolling by at 106 mph.
