Two Bolts?! Doh!

It's always the little things that trip you up!

It seems like as I've been putting this motor together, a littany of little items have tripped me up. Well, today the last little thing was taken care of!

A few weeks ago as I was bolting on the oil pan for the 350 that's destined for our Project '92 Camaro, the excitement was making my hair stand on end. I could hear in my mind the sound the 350 would make once installed in my faded '92 RS as it spun the wheels on the dyno. All that lay ahead was bolting on the oil filter adapter, a new oil pressure sending unit, filter and oil, and I could prime and set the lifter preload.

Imagine my surprise when I realized the oil filter adapter didn't come with the installation bolts! ARGH! My fault for not noticing that in the GMPP catalog, it clearly states "Requires two attaching bolts...". In case you're wondering, if you have a GMPP (www.gmperformanceparts.com) Gen I small block crate motor, you'll need to also buy the oil filter adapter (Part No. 3952301) and the bolts to attach it with (Part No. 3951644)

A quick trip to Furman Chevrolet down the street from our Tampa office, and I had the two bolts needed, and after lunch all it took was a couple of minutes to get the adapter on. So, next week I'll have the motor all finished up, primed, and ready to go in the '92.  We'll dyno the Camaro to see what the tired 305 is making at the rear wheels (Hey, after almost 210k miles you'd be tired too!), then tear that thign out to install our aluminum headed beast! At the flywheel the motor shoudl make about 400 HP, so I'm guessing about 340 at the rear wheels once the 700R4 and the rear end finish sucking off some horsepower.

Stay tuned!
