Finishing Up Project Homewrecker

Spending More Corvette Money

In my July editorial in Super Chevy, I wrote about Project Homewrecker and how it was almost finished. I worried if I'd get the same thrills from it I got from a '69 Corvette I had back in the early to mid ’80s. I must have been kidding. Even with a few things still wrong with it, the passion was there the moment I turned the key and backed out of the driveway.

The plan was to take it Hillcrest Exxon in Cedar Grove, New Jersey, for a 4-wheel alignment, then bring it up to my friend Tom's house in West Jersey. Tom's restored quite a few Vettes in his day and knows the first three generations like few people I've ever met. He has the tools, the skills and the patience I lack.

Driving the Corvette on the twisty back roads to the alignment shop and then (even better) on the snaking back roads of West Jersey to Tom's house couldn't have been better. The car ran like a champ and handled like a dream. The Targa Blue paint turned heads everywhere. I fell in love instantly.

I just ordered a few parts from Mid America Motorworks. Once they arrive I'll be headed to Tom's house to work on my baby (my tiny garage afford absolutely no room for such projects). I am hoping that before June is over the car will be 100 percent finished (if such a thing is possible). Look out world.
