It's not just for the military anymore. Now you can go to the dedicated Project American Heroes 2008 website and vote for your favorite paint scheme (http://www.projectamericanheroes.net). Eric Brockmeyer drew up five variations on a theme for our newest  Bow Tie. It's a '69 Camaro SS, to which we'll be adding an RS grille. But that's only the beginning. It'll have a mega-horse LS engine, a complete DSE front and rear suspension, a full-boogie interior—essentially, it'll have the best of everything.

Once the Project American Heroes Camaro is built, it will debut at the Super Chevy show in Joliet, Illinois, then hit the road to drum up interest in it. The car will be auctioned off in 2009 and the proceeds will benefit the Armed Forces Foundation. The goal is to help the troops who have served or are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. When we did this with our first American Heroes project, the '57 Chevy built by The Roadster Shop, it garnered $130,000 at the Barrett-Jackson West Palm auction earlier this year. That entire sum was then turned over to the Armed Forces Foundation.

This is the most recent photo of PAH08 from freelance editor Arvid Svendsen. It's at Route 66 Motorsports and is being block sanded. This car has come a long way since we rescued its hulk out of California.
