Thanks to the graciousness of the folks at the Bondurant School of High Performance Driving in Chandler, Arizona, I and Super Chevy freelancer Chris Werner were able to attend the 4-day Grand Prix driving school. We did three days in brand-new LS3-powered 2008 Corvettes and the last day in a Formula Bondurant open wheel car.

The legend himself Bob Bondurant

The instructors were great and we spend some serious time in the classroom, but most of the four days was spent on track. You'll be able to read Werner's full report in an upcoming issue of Super Chevy, but let me tell you I've never spent so many hours on track at any event I've ever been to. Hour and after hour, we got to wring out Chevy's finest at the limit.

The Formula Bondurant cars have insane grip and the power to weight ratio of a LS Camaro

We also got to spend time with racing legend and school empresario Bob Bondurant. Bob's done it all in his career, from racing Corvettes in the early '60s, including the original ZO6 in '63, to beating the Ferraris with Carroll Shelby and the Cobras.

The final day of the school was spent in an open-wheel Formula Bondurant car. It has only 100 horsepower, but weighs but 950 lbs—do the math! It was a wild time.

Can't wait to go back for the advanced school and then the ZO6 school!
