In an unfortunate fiery crash during qualifying at the Lucas Oil NHRA Supernationals in Englishtown, NJ Scott Kalitta succumbs to injuries suffered.
Scott Kalitta died June 21, 2008 from injuries suffered in an Funny Car accident during a qualifying session at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, NJ. Kalitta, a former two-time NHRA Top Fuel Champ retired back in 1997 to spend more time with his family, until participating in a 10-race season in 1999, eventually running a full schedule again. Scott's DHL sponsored Toyota funny car had burst into flames around the finish line and continued to rocket straight into the sand trap, eventually landing beyond the net. While there is much speculation at this point as to what exactly happened, we are unsure of any reports at this time.
Scott is survived by his wife Kathy and sons Corey and Colin, as well as his father Connie.
We wish the Kalitta family/team our deepest sympathy during these hard and trying times.
