Whichever Super Chevy Show you visit this year, and years to come, make sure to stop and introduce yourself to front man, and 1980 NHRA Hall of Famer, Roger Gustin. Every free second I get at the shows, I make a point to head Roger's way with fingers crossed, hoping to hear a few stories from the very beginnings of Jet Cars, and nitro-powered drag cars.
You will hard pressed to find a more open and approachable man on the planet, willing to tell you every detail of events that took place decades ago. At the Super Chevy Show in Columbus, OH, Roger and I began talking about his beautiful tri-five and the extents he went to bribe the then owner to part with it. Forty five minutes later, we were knee deep in Jet-cars. He said that his first jet-car came in at a whopping 3700 pounds dry and without driver. I could easily find myself writing for days, telling tales of Roger, but its best to get it from the horses mouth. Make your way to one of the remaining shows on the schedule and introduce yourself to Roger. You will not be disappointed.
