A fairly new hobby of mine now that I am knee deep in the magazine industry is to collect periodicals from the '60's and '70's. A few weeks back, I found a complete set of MotorTrend's from 1969 and for $42.00 incuding shipping, and was forced to indulge.
It's amazing how much advertising had changed since then, especially regarding lingo and syntax. Presently I am on page 43 of the July issue, staring at a picture of a red SS/RS 1969 Camaro with an all black background and a slogan that is about as blunt as you can get: "A word or two to the competition: You lose". I was blown away by the ad and found that many of them in this time were framed in quite the same fashion.
On page 51 of the February issue in the same year, another General Motors advertisement has a '69 Camaro and '69 Corvette sitting in a barn with a beautiful lady resting her arms inbetween the two with the unmistakable slogan of, "We'll take on any other two cars in the magazine". Can it get any better than that?
