No good news at GM these days.

Rear-Drive Impala Dead

First came word that the supercharged Z28 we wrote about in the August issue of Super Chevy (Briefs) was dead. Now we've got confirmation that the rear-drive 2011 Impala replacement (and its Buick twin) are also dead.

The "good" news is the Impala will truck on, but the replacement will be front-wheel-drive, according to a story in industry trade publication Automotive News. Fuel economy concerns axed the rwd Impala, including a 350-horsepower SS version that would have competed with the likes of the Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300.

Our letter-writing campaign to save the Z28 is still ongoing, though, and we've gotten email from as far away as Iceland and France from the faithful. Read the story on the death of the Z28 on our homepage and if you'd like to get involved, email me at superchevy@sourceinterlink.com.
