It's over 5,000 feet of natural elevation. In average air conditions, the adjusted altitude can range anywhere from 4,000 to 8,000 feet. It's just slow...at least compared to what I am used to. Atco Raceway in the 609's often sees negative adjusted altitude. E-town, Island, Maple Grove, and Cecil County all have seen similar events. Bandimere is set on the leeward side of the rockies, snuggled up close on a cliff edge. I almost missed it a few times as I went driving by at my natural New Jersey 85mph.
I made a quick stop at the strip and met some of the local racers. These were fascinating people who were more than happy to let me check out their rides. It's very strange hearing the pitch of a Chevy 350 at 5,000-feet. To the "somewhat" trained ear, it kind of sounds like a sick dog being dragged by its owner. High gear ratios, and massive first gears still just do not help. I think it would be awesome taking a few of these cars to E-Town and watching them go 6 or 7 tenths faster.
