Project American Heroes Engine Update

Big Inches, Big Power, Better Fuel Economy

When it came to power Project American Heroes 2, our ’69 Camaro RS, we decided to go for a big-inch, injected LS engine. This gave us less weight on the front end than a big-block, but a lot more power and civility than we’d get with a giant, big-carb’d small-block stroker. And there will be better fuel economy, too.

We stuff the LS7 block, which was donated by GMMG, with a Lunati forged rotating assembly, a wet sump oiling system, and the best from Comp Cams. The result is 427.7 cubic inches. We topped it with RHS 225cc LS heads, a Weiand intake and fired it up with Turn Key electronics. The result? Check out the November issue of Super Chevy Magazine. Let’s just say we easily crashed through the 500-horsepower barrier.
