A GM A-body of a different sort. Some may think it blasphemy to post a picture of Buick on the Super Chevy site, but you have to admit the 1970 Buick GS Stage 1 was the fastest American production car that year. Faster than a Vette or any of those rusting Mopars.  When it comes right down to it, the guys on the Super Chevy staff are car guys period.

1. I thought the Hemi Cuda was the quickest in '70. Then I thought the Chevelle 454 was quicker than the Buick. I believe Car Craft did a comparison of all three cars on the same day, same track.

I like the Buicks but you might want to check things out before proclaim them to be the King of 1970.

2. Though still interesting, you've seen Chevelles a thousand times before... After all, it's not that much difference between the A-bodies, they're all Chevelles, just with a significant taste!

3. Some road test numbers to think about:

Car Craft test of Stage 1 Buick with automatic: 14.31 at 100.22.

Car & Driver: LS6 Chevelle with automatic: 13.81 at 103.80.

Super Stock & Drag Illustrated test of LS6 Chevelle with a 4-speed: 13.2 at 106.

The Buick was certainly bad to the bone, but they sure seem to have gotten a lot faster in peoples' memories over the years.
