The Race to the Clouds, also known as the Pikes Peak Hill Climb takes place once a year in late July and consists of a 12.42 mile romp straight up one of the most beautiful and narly mountains the Rockies has to offer.
Two weeks following the event, myself and a few buddies made the climb and took 45 minutes to do so. The record up the mountain has recently dipped under 10-minutes. No matter what your plans, if you get a chance to visit Colorado, head down past Colorado Springs and race up the mountain. We started the day at 4,600 feet of elevation and 82-degrees and ended atop the mountain some 14,100 feet later with snow up to our ankles in 28 degree weather.
