In fact, for every 10 degrees Fahrenheit that the incoming air temperature is reduced, the engine will gain 1.5 – 2 percent in both torque and horsepower using a Speed by Spectre Muscle Car Cold Air Intake Kit. The incoming air – heated by the radiator, engine and exhaust – can reach temperatures of 200°F. By using the Speed by Spectre Muscle Car Cold Air intake, you can duct in fresh colder air and realize tremendous horsepower gains. For example, a well-tuned performance engine that makes 300 horsepower with a 200°F inlet air temperature will make 330 horsepower if the air temperature is reduced to 140°F. This same engine will make 353 horsepower (an 18% gain!) if the air temperature is reduced to 100°F! And on a cool day, say 60°F, if this same engine takes in this cool air, it will make 381 horsepower…a 27% gain! The attached graph shows the gains that will be realized as the air temperature is reduced in 10°F increments.
In addition to more horses, one of the key features of these kits is their universal nature. They allow you to choose the location to draw the cold air from – wheel wells, cowls, front gravel shields or, with the optional headlight scoops, you can utilize the high beam location of some models.
