Saw today where Honda displaced Chrysler as number four overall for vehicle sales. And we're still reeling from Toyota taking the top spot from GM. You have to wonder, if GM (and the other American car companies) still built cars like this, would sales be an issue?
(Don't grumble, I know this isn't a Chevy, but read below to get my point!)
What you're looking at is a beautiful unrestored '62 Cadillac LaSalle. 29k miles on the clock, this car still runs as good as the day it rolled off the showroom floor!
Looking at the styling, clean lines, chrome/stianless accents of the exterior, combined with the simple yet stylish interior design and details, I can't help but wonder, if GM still built cars like this classic Cadillac, would they be having problems selling vehicles? Yes, new cars today have great technolgoical advances and features, but lack the styling and detail of the old cars, the personality that gives them a character all their own. There's no plastic feel with this interior, no thought of the word cheap either.
On the outside, this car has styling that sets it apart, and looks better than a lot of new cars today. There's no generic feel, no utilitarian appearance. This car is American, a rolling work of art that is still admired today.
I think this is the critical thing GM needs to rediscover to reclaim the top spot in making cars.
