Sleeping With The Enemy

Can I even call the Ferrari Enzo "the enemy"? With a pricetag over $1,000,000, this supercar is truely a spectacular piece of machinery. Anyway...I was knee deep in the disassembly of a small-block Chevy at our family-owned Exxon in Florham Park,  NJ. We have three bays there, all of which were full with american muscle. Down the row, we had a 1972 Camaro NHRA stocker, my 1972 Nova (which you will definitely meet soon, and a 1969 Camaro 396/375.

We had run out of room in the shop so I was literaly turning wrenches underneith the '69. I hit my head a time or two on the driveshaft but it was all in the name of making horsepower, so I barely felt it. I had just gotten the last of the pistons out when I heard the unmistakable revvs that only a Ferrari could make coming in to get some gas. I thought for sure it was a Maranello or Modena as the Paul Miller Ferrari dealership was in close proximity. I took a peak out the window only to see that it was in fact, the Ferrari Enzo filling up with 93 octane.

I gazed for a while (how could I not) and then saw the driver was doing the same back at the Camaros. He walked over and we began chatting about the cars and we both stated we would love to take a ride in eachothers hot rods. I told him that once the Nova was finished, I would make sure to pop by his house. He asked me if I wanted a ride in the Enzo and I simple could not resist. It's different than anything I had been in before and the best way I could describe it would be to say that its a racecar with some carbon fiber accents. Your butt is basically on the ground and the car does not come up to your waist if you are standing beside it. It was definitely a fun experience hearing those revs from the V12 right behind our head. Though...it was nice to see that both of us were able to admire each other toys. And here I thought that all Ferrari owners were rich ***** who don't want to deal with anyone.
