What's Your Opinion on chevrolet?

So, a bailout of the auto industry looks dubious. Everyone's debating about whether the government should offer the bail out, so we'll skip that for now. Let's look at the road traveled to this point...

I really want to hear the honest opinions of those who actually look at these blogs, why aren't you interested in buying a GM product? Beyond the credit crisis, the Big Three have seen slumping sales for years.

What is it thart makes people look at foreign cars before American ones? From your point of view, what does GM/Chevrolet need to do to get people to buy their cars over the likes of Toyota, Honda, Nissan, etc.?

Is it styling? Quality? Price? Options?

1. All of the above, first the gas mileage of todays full size trucks just don't meet my budget. 40 miles to work and back every day 18 mpg and $3.00 per gallon just don't cut it, why can they not do better? My 1986 chev K10 with 33/12.50 tires gets 14!!! Also the styling, I think the styling fell off after 1999 I just have not liked them that much since. With the exception of the vett which I think looks great. I really dont like the cars that much. Are there any phillips head screws on any cars now days? every thing is built so cheap! My grandmother has a 08 impala ss 5.3, I think it's a fun car to drive, but it cost 30k. the body and interior just dont feel Impala to me. There is so many buttons that I could care less about, that add to the price that in my opinion these options have NO COSTOMER ADDED VALUE!!! How much would this car cost if it just had what it needed? would these work if the car had 150,000 miles on it anyway? repair cost!!!!! I wonder if we will ever see anyone out in the garage tinkering with their colorado? Or family HHR buildup? I doubt it. ethier it works or it don't, we just throw it away and get another one. Or not. Chevys have been a part of me for as long as I can remember, I enjoy owning my old ones, I don't see me buying a new Camaro with the money I have saved to restore my 1970 Chevelle. I have never purchased a new vehicle, but have considerd one. I still will consider GM first when that time comes, If they are still around.

2. Lets face it GM and the other guys got beat at their own game. There are no two ways about it. Once gas hit a $1.50 a gallon they should have seen the handwriting on the wall and started building smaller, sleeker, sportier looking two and four door vehicles. Instead they choose to keep building bigger and bigger SUV's, Escalades, Suburbans, and those godawful Hummers etc. It became a pissing contest between the US auto makers who could build the biggest girthiest behemoth. On the other hand the Germans and Asians were building sportier looking more fuel efficient models that were not giants on the road. GM has lost the youth market. While the Cobalt SS is a kick ass vehicle it was priced way too high. The same with Trailblazer SS, bitchin vehicle but too big and overpriced.

I'm split down the middle on bailing these guys out. I think maybe they need a massive restructure and pay their CEO's Japanese CEO wages. I don't want to bail them out and burden my future grandchildren with the debt so some CEO's can maintain their opulent life style. It's not the 1950's and 60's anymore and gas will rise to sky high prices again.

3. Now that I said all that, I would never buy a foreign truck. As far as Im concerned only GM and Ford make the best trucks and Chrysler BAH! Never did care for Dodge. I would look at a US made car first, but if one does not meet my needs and price, I will go to the other side of the pond looking for my vehicle purchase. Truthfully I'd rather continue working on my 58 Apache truck than buy anything else.

4. Let's not forget this so-called "bailout" is a loan. It isn't a handout. There's quite a difference. When the government did the same for Chrysler in the '80s, that company re-paid the loans early and the government made a fortune in interest payments.

Ultimately, if the Big Three go bankrupt, it will cost the U.S. taxpayers one hell of a lot more than $25 billion. It's been estimated that the cost in social programs (welfare, unemployment, health care, etc.) $125 billion after just three years.

5. Yeah thats the other side of the story. Huge unemployment numbers for the average Joe worker. Let's say the tax payers give them the loan. Will they still continue to build ugly cars and forget the youth market? I don't know if much will change at GM. What do you think. I don't believe the Volt will be their salvation.
