RHS is about to stand the LS world on its ear, thanks to its new aluminum block. Shown here in raw form, the new block will allow you to build a 502-cubic-inch LS small-block! Designed from a high-strength A357-T6 aluminum, the race block is hardenend usinga unique solidification and cooling process. It's designed for maximum clearance to utilize bigger stroke and to minimize windage on the rotating assemble.
According to RHS' Brian Reese, the block will be available in both standard 9.240-inch and tall 9.750-9.80-inch deck heights. It will be able to accept up to a 4.6-inch stroke with standard rod pin diameters. It has a raised cam centerline to allow larger stroke and two extra links in the timing change.
IT uses a 6-head-bolt design with full water jacket around the cylinders (based on the LS7 design).
You can run it with either a wet or dry sump oiling system. The cam tunnel will accommodate 60mm roller bearing cams and there are provisions for both Gen III and Gen IV cam and knock sensors and valley covers.
They should be available for sale by April and we are working on bringing you the exclusive first-build article for an upcoming issue of Super Chevy magazine. Stay tuned.
