Testing tires is fun, but can be hard work

I flew to Califonia to test the newest tires from Continental, the Extreme Contact DW, an ultra-high-performance summer tire, and the DWS, an all-season ultra-high performance tire, which can be used in the snow.

You can read about how well they performed in an upcoming issue of Super Chevy—and they did perform remarkably well—but this blog is about what happens when you get a little over-anxious on the autocross.

At the introduction's closing ceremonies I was awarded the Cone Killer award for my destruction of this green cone. I swear it was not my fault. Sure, I clipped it, but who would have known it was going to get stuck under the test car against the exhaust system? Hey, it happens.

I thought I'd get the award for my spinning performance in the dry autocross when I wiped out a half-dozen cones. Hey, if you don't go off course once in a while, you are not trying hard enough.
