Classic Chevy Magazine Coming In June

Is there room for '58s?

Work is starting soon on the 2009 edition of Chevy Classics, our annual tribute to Tri-Five Chevys. Recently, someone put forth the question: Should we expand coverage in this magazine for '58 Chevys?

Should we put '58 Chevys in our 2009 issue of Chevy Classics magazine

At 51 years of age, they definitely qualify as antiques. But they sure do not get a lot of respect from the masses. Is it time for the '58 Impala and its W-engined brothers to take a place alongside their Tri-Five predecessors or should they remain a more obscure part of the vintage Chevy hobby.

1. The '58s belong with the other full-sized cars.

Tri-Fives are just that, tri = three. 1955, 1956, 1957. No other model years.

In '58 the car was made bigger, with a longer wheelbase, wider track, and a host of other changes that began what was the full size Impala/Bel Air/Biscayne line, 1958-1964. It has a place in Impala/Bel Air/Biscayne history, but does NOT belong with the 55-56-57 cars. Outside of engine and transmission, the '58s shared NOTHING with the 55-56-57 cars.

I'm not a '58 hater, but firmly believe they don't belong with the Tri-Fives.

2. The simple answer is NO! I love all things Chevy but the Tri-Five belong in a class of their own!

5. I love tri fives and have had a 55 and 56 but how many can you look at.I now have a custom 58 and just at the prices they are going for a acution.At the last Nov good guys show people would pass the tri fives and spend more time looking at 58 to 62 Impals.PS.Try priceing a 348/409 engine.
