While at a super secret location for a photo shoot last week, I came across this LeMans Blue gem that isn't as plain and ordinary as one might think...
While everyone remembers the SS-RS-Z/28 Camaros with big engines and lots of horsepower, a lot of times we forget about the Camaros that helped keep the nameplate alive. The base model, more "mundane" Camaros that didn't light up the tires or win many/any races anywhere, that served as regular drivers and pumped production numbers up to keep our beloved pony car from becoming extinct. Some had six cylinders (though many forget you oculd get the RS option with any engine combo, inclduing the six cylnder models), others had low horsepower small blocks (the base 307 2 bbl was rated at 200 HP), and lives their lives quietly on the streets of America.
This particular drop top was a native of Arkansas, and sports low miles and unrestored petina. The car was built with the optional 250 six cylinder, optional TH350 3-speed auto, tilt steering wheel, and the Z87 custom interior option. Making this convertible even more unusual was that it came with factory air conditioning. The interior showed almost 40 years worth of use and wear, but was still in pretty good shape, with the ripped driver's seat probably being the worst part of the inside.
Since so many Camaros like this one ended up being heavily modified and their original six cylinders junked in favor of small or big blocks, it's really neat to see one still going strong. We even got to see the car fired up, it's 250 jumping to life with no effort, although a bit of smoke out the tailpipe. All the factory build markings were still intact also, making this car a restoration expert's dream come true.
