Whatever Happened to the Vega?

The Chevrolet Vega - Small Car Failure or Success?

Was looking through photos for something to blog about, and came across this photo of a really nice Vega with a V-8 conversion...

Shot this last year at the Joliet Super Chevy show. Really nice car, clean, and the small block swap was done nicely, no hacking or fubar type stuff.

It got me to thinking, where have all the Vegas gone? Have they all dissolved into rust? Been wrecked racing in various forms of motorsports? Is there some mythical Vega Valhalla where they've gone to live the rest of their existence?

Vegas weren't bad looking cars. Hell, looking at this photo, they look ten times better then the small cars that followed, the Cavalier, Cobalt, and others. Yes, they had some issues at first, but those bugs were ironed out.

So, Super Chevy world, can someone tell me, where have all the Vegas gone?
