Like many of you out there, I am into things that go fast and the people behind the technology. Research and developement is a part of every single race team out there from us hanging out in the garage, to Joe Gibbs Racing messing with aerodynamics. There is always a way to go faster be it on the drag strip or through the corners. Changing some metering rods, adjusting a trac-bar, or simply changing lines through a corner is what seperates the best from the rest.
Just about every Sunday morning, I am up at 4:30 to make sure to catch the Formula 1 race live. These guys are the real deal, but I guess its easy to be when teams are spending over 200 million a year. The cars are light, fast, and high revving (18,000 rpm). Anyway, I did have a point to this blog and just share some of the fun things I like to do. My brother and I are deep into remote control car racing. The motors are .21cc 2-cycles that burn 30% nitromethane. The rev to over 45,000 rpm and can run over 100 mph. I once shot one straigth over my two story house, thats how fast they can go. Last week, I was four tenths of a second behind the leader through the qualifiers lap after lap and made some changes to try and make up the difference. We dropped the shocks an 1/8th of an inch, make a gear ratio change, and took a new line. Long story short, track conditions changed dramatically and I went back in the field. Though, trying new things and thinking outside the box is the best thing to do as long as you remain safe. Get out there and try some stuff. You never know what you will learn.
