One thing you see a lot in Florida that I didn't see in New Jersey is homeless people begging for money at Interstate off-ramps. Normally I pay them very little attention, but I was driving my '72 Corvette yesterday when I saw one walking towards me as I sat at the light. Terrific.
I try to be a decent man, but you never know what you're going to get with someone like this. In California, the homeless are truly belligerent and nasty. Rudy Guiliani got rid of the homeless problem in New York City when he was mayor, but before that it was a lot easier to chase them with your vehicle than it was to have them wipe your windshield with a piss-soaked rag. (The 454SS truck was great for this.) In Florida, the vagrants are all over the place at the exit ramps and I'm not about to scratch my vintage Vette by hitting one. I'm grateful the light changed and I was not forced into making a decision about this.
OK, I'm only kidding. I never chased homeless people around New York City with a truck, Olds 88 convertible or (especially) my '84 Corvette.
