I'm going off topic today for the Super Chevy blogs to take a moment to mourn the loss of one of my favorite authors, Robert B Parker, a great writer who saved the whole detective novel genre from the proverbial scrap heap...
Yesterday I found out Robert B Parker, who penned the Spenser detective novels, passed away writing at his desk at the age of 77. A Korean War veteran, Parker's first Spenser novel was published in 1973, The Godwulf Manuscript, the first of what would be 37 published Spenser novels, and his publisher in commenting on Parker's passing mentioned that at least three more Spenser novels were already turned in for publishing. He also wrote the Jesse Stone and Sunny Randall novels.
Recently CBS had made a series of TV movies based on the Jesse Stone novels with Tom Selleck starring as police chief Jesse Stone. Before that, there was the 80s TV series with actor Robert Urich portraying Spenser and Averey Brooks as Spenser's stalwart partner Hawk.
Here are some links to learn more about Parker and his novels, and if you're looking for a good read, hit your local used or new book store and pick up one of the Spenser novels, you're sure to enjoy it.
