When Norm Meads was 17, he ordered a black-on-black L78 Nova at Park Circle Chevrolet in Baltimore. With a few mods, the 375-horse, automatic-equipped ’70 was soon running low 12s at 111 mph. Not a bad hot rod for a high-school kid, but he sold it in ’72 as marriage and a career got in the way. At the Super Chevy Show in Norwalk, Ohio, we photographed his new toy for a feature article, the nearly identical ’69 Nova SS you see here.
You'll be able to read the full story of Norm and his Nova in a future issue of Super Chevy Magazine, but we'll give you a quick teaser. This one has a four-speed instead of a TH400, but it has the same kind of bolt-ons he added in ‘70, including traction bars, headers and gauges. It is flawless and we were happy to have it at the event.
