Not too long ago we came into possession of a ’72 Nova SS. It had been set up for a big-block, but was engineless. It wasn't perfect, but it was acquired for a price that anyone working at McDonald's could afford. Plus, it came with a host of aftermarket upgrades, including mini-tubs, a cowl hood, Center Line wheels, drag radials and a Covan's dash full of Auto Meter gauges. We decided to try an experiment: What happens if you try a TCI front clip and suspension on a car that will be used more for drag racing than autocross duty? Here's a picture of the car in its current state, with the TCI clip installed. You'll be able to read all about the car's progress in upcoming issues of Super Chevy.
While we know there will be less suspension travel, the clip deletes 140 lbs off the nose. We're throwing in the "Real Fine 509" Dart engine you read about last year. It's got aluminum heads and an aluminum intake to further reduce weight (while adding power) and it made 669 on the dyno. This is the "before" picture of the Nova. We especially like the blue rubber glove in both photos. It really enhances the look of the car.
