According to GM, there are no plans for the next-generation Corvette to be a mid-engined car, nor will there be (thank goodness) a V-6 powerplant. Supposedly, a 5.5-liter engine is on the drawing board for improved fuel economy and hybrids are a definite possibility.
A V-6 Corvette? Shoot me, please. Having driven an all-wheel-drive Lamborghini Gallardo recently, I wish Chevy would offer AWD as an option. As these cars develop more and more horsepower, it's the only way to harness it, plus as it's a big help in the handling department. (Zora Arkus-Duntov had plans for an all-wheel-drive, mid-engine Corvette in the early ’70s so it's not like it's never been considered before.) Some would say this would add cost and complexity to the Vette, but it's not like GM has been bashful about pricing the Corvette into the stratosphere.
