First Spin: '11 Camaro Convertible

Opening Up The V-6 Fifth-Gen

We got a surprise voice mail yesterday at the Super Chevy Mobile Command Unit. The people who were coming to pick up our Buick Regal Turbo test car (we'll explain later) were going to drop off a new ’11 Camaro convertible. "Would that be OK?" Does a bear shift in the woods?

As you can see, it's pretty darn red. What you can't tell (probably) is that it's a V-6 model. Really hard to tell it apart from the SS from the side. So far we're averaging 20.7 mpg in mostly city driving and it's been a blast. Yes, we miss the extra horsepower and torque of the SS, but the direct-injection V-6 still makes this a mid-14-second tanning booth.

On the highway with the top down and windows up, we found the noise to be quieter than expected. There was a breeze to be sure, even at 80 mph, but it was pleasant and very livable. It wasn't until we hit 90 that the noise and buffeting got a little uncomfortable.

Fully loaded, the sticker came to $36,185. Stay tuned for more as we get to know the 2LT RS ragtop.
