Here it is, your first look at the new front-wheel-drive Impala. Pretty slick looking piece. Chevy is attempting to convert the much-neglected full-size sedan from a fleet vehicle with few sales to the regular public to a more upscale vehicle that will appeal to people shopping cars like the Toyota Avalon.
Three engines will be available, all with direct-injection: A couple of four-bangers (one with e-assist) and a 303-horse version of the 3.6-liter V-6. The interior looks very similar to that of the new Malibu and the grille hints at the new Camaro.
For those of you pining for a rear-wheel-drive full-size Chevy, your wait continues. Originally, the new Impala was supposed to be a rear-drive-sedan, but the bankruptcy killed that. There's a possibility that the police-only Caprice could debut as a civilian vehicle in the near future, but that remains to be seen.
