We finally had time to track down the transmission leak in the 70 Z/28 Camaro we have been tinkering with in the West Coast Super Chevy Shop.. While this is a very solid car it has seen some serious abuse before being put in the back yard and forgotten in 1981. We found it and have been doing a few things on it while we gather all the body panels to repair the rust.
Anyway after we got the motor fired up the next step was to fill the trans and see if she worked. Low and behold once it was topped off it went into gear and actually shifter pretty hard when we took it on a test drive. On the drive there were two things we noticed right away one ifs the stall speed on the converter was pretty high in the 4000-4500 range and secondly we have a trans leak. Every time we came to a stop at a light smoke would start to roll out from under the car and even fill the passenger compartment through the 4-speed hole in the tunnel. At quick glance when we got back to the shop was the front pump seal was dried up and that was our leak. Boy we should have looked a bit closer because it was actually the converter itself. two of the three mounting tabs are broken off and the last one is holding on by a thread. A new converter is on the way and the trans is getting rebuilt now so look for a full story on the fix up right here on SuperChevy.com.
